Zombicide Invader - Civilian Extras Part V
Hot on the heels of the previous batch of miniatures from the Zombicide Invader Civilian Extras kickstarter stretch goal is the next bunch of misfits. I grouped these particular models together as they predominantly had dark skin, which made it easier to get them all done at the same time.
Doctor Stakefrieze
Supposedly a reference to Morpheus from the Matrix series of films. I don’t see it honestly.
I started off by painting his skin with Cygor Brown, it’s a nice rich brown that’s not quite as saturated as Wyldwood so hopefully some of the highlights will show through. His trousers I painted with Speedpaint Runic Grey and his coat with Speedpaint Desolate Brown. The armour on his chest and shoulders I painted with Basilicanum Grey and the various leather details I painted with Gore-Grunta Fur. To really make the model pop I painted his cuffs, shin guards, coat padding and sword scabbard with Blood Angels Red. Finally, the cables that come out of his head I painted with a coat of Black Templar.
Trooper Carlotta Mendez
Definitely Private Vasquez from the 1986 film Aliens, complete with an oversized weapon. Not that it did her much use in the film if I recall correctly.
As above I started by giving the skin a coat of Cygor Brown, which unfortunately for Carlotta turned out a bit darker than I had been anticipating. Nevertheless I soldiered (pun intended) on, painting her top with Scale75 Instant Colour Arcane Purple and her trousers with Creed Camo. As usual, I picked out the leather details with Gore-Grunta Fur and her boots with Black Templar. Lastly, I painted her bandana with Blood Angels Red.
Allyson Cardenal
Apparently a mashup of Faye Valentine and Radical Edward both from the anime Cowboy Bebop.
I started by painting her skin with Skeleton Horde, a colour that as its name suggests is usually used to paint bone but I found it to be a pale brown that served well for non-caucasian skin. Her top I painted with Speedpaint Runic Grey and like Carlotta I painted her trousers with Creed Camo. To mix things up a little I instead painted her leather details and patches with Cygor Brown. Although I did still paint her shoes and rucksack with Gore-Grunta Fur. The dog I painted with Snakebite Leather, although being such a tiny dog I think some of the details got lost under the contrast paint. Finally, I painted her gloves and hair with Black Templar.
Madame Singleton
She is apparently based on Tina Turner’s character Aunty Entity from Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. Like Doctor Stakefrieze I don’t see it to be honest.
Back to our regularly scheduled programing I painted her skin with Cygor Brown. Her top I painted with Skeleton Horde and her trousers with Snakebite Leather. Her coat I painted with Speedpaint Runic Grey, which is really doing some heavy lifting in this batch of miniatures. I finished the model off by painting the leather details with Gore-Grunta Fur, then her hair and boots with Black Templar.
Mercedes Madrid
Yet another reference I don’t see the resemblance, supposedly Mercedes is based off of Mo'Nique’s character of Lateesha Rodriguez from the 2005 film Domino.
As ever I started by painting the skin with Cygor Brown. Her top I painted with Speedpaint Runic Grey, and her trousers and hair with Black Templar. The patches on her trousers and her bracelet I painted with Iyanden Yellow as a stand in for gold. Lastly I painted her belt with Basilicanum Grey and all the leather detailings including her boots with Gore-Grunta Fur.
Gold Coast Gary
Now this character I do recognise: Chris Tucker’s character Ruby Rhod from the 1997 file The Fifth Element.
For the last time I started off by painting his skin with Cygor Brown taking care to avoid his facial hair. His paint suit I painted with Scale75 Instant Colour Arcane Purple which is not as full of colour as I might have liked but needs must. The collar I painted with Talassar Blue and his boots with Speedpaint Familiar Pink. The leather belts and pouches I painted with Gore-Grunta Fur, while his hair and gloves I painted with Black Templar.
Final details and bases
Once all the details were done I painted all the weapons with Basilicanum Grey and drybrushed them with Necron Compound. Made sense to get them all done at once.
Moving onto the bases, I covered the exposed areas with Vallejo Red Oxide texture paste and once that was dry I painted the rocks with Vallejo Fire Red. I then washed the bases with my homebrew Reikland Fleshshade as I had quite a few to do, the recipe for which is in my Zombicide Invader Xenos article. Once that was dry I then drybrushed the bases with Kindleflame making sure to get some on the boots of the models to simulate dust. Lastly I painted the rims of the bases with a matt black.
Yes, I copied and pasted that from the last article. I’ve got a few of these to write and there’s only so many ways you can say that you washed and drybrushed a textured base.
