Gloomhaven - "Music Note" class unlock

Hot on the heels of my “Three Spears” class is the “Music Note” that my wife unlocked. As before if you don’t want any spoilers then stop reading now.

I suppose it would come as no surprise to some that the “Music Note” character is a bard type class called the Soothsinger. She is a Quatryl like the Tinkerer and the Demolitionist from Jaws of the Lion. Like the Tinkerer she is a support class, but where the Tinkerer supports his team with healing and the occasional stun the Soothsinger is all about the persistent buffs in the form of Songs and lacing the monster modifier deck with Curses. I have played around with her in Gloomhaven Digital’s Guild Master mode and I think she is my favourite support character so far.

As far as painting goes, I started by priming her with grey. As with other Quatryl’s I basecoated her skin with a couple of thin coats of Vallejo Khaki and her armour with Scale75 Old Copper. These areas I then washed with Army Painter Strong Tone. I finished off the face by painting her eyes with some Thousand Sons Blue.

For the instrument that she’s playing, which I assume is some variant of a lute, I painted the body with a few thin coats of Vallejo Pale Sand. The tuners and headstock I painted with Scale75 Dwarven Gold. I then washed the entire thing with some Skeleton Horde contrast paint.

The rest of the model was a kaleidoscope of colours really. I painted her hat and cloak with a couple of thin coats of Vallejo Squid Pink. I then used Warboss Green, Temple Guard Blue, Mephiston Red, and Troll Slayer Orange to paint the various feathers that she has dotted about her person. To make her scarf stand out a little I painted it with a Two Thin Coats Runic Purple. As always, the character has a leather pouch that I painted with some Mournfang Brown. I used the same for the scabbard of the sword on her back. With these areas done, I then washed them with Nuln Oil. For the cloak, I then layered on a bit of the Squid Pink again to brighten it back up.

Last but not least I moved onto the base. To start with I coated the base with some Stirland Mud texture paint. Once that was dry I washed it with Army Painter Strong Tone and once that was dry I then drybrushed the base with Tyrant Skull. I painted the rim, stuck on a grass tuft and she was done, ready to sing her songs in the dungeons.

One more boardgame miniature done, slow progress perhaps but I am gearing up to make a real dent in the numbers soon. Hopefully anyway. Besides, we tend to use these Gloomhaven miniatures as we’re playing through the campaign at the moment, so I feel it’s important that I can get these unlocks painted up as soon as I can.

Boardgame miniatures left to paint: 700

Boardgame miniatures painted this year: 66
