Warhammer Twitch Previews - Warhammer Skulls 2022

Warhammer Skulls is a preview of all the upcoming games that are based on Games Workshops’ IPs. And as Games Workshop gives out licences like candy, there are more games than you might think in development. In fact, we have an entire week of reveals. So, let’s dive right into Day One.

Right off  the bat we have a three minute montage of all the video games released in the last three decades that are based on Warhammer. I have a lot of fond memories there, I played a lot of the original Chaos Gate and Dawn of War back in the day. I remember being at school and hyping the release of Fire Warrior, adamant that it would be a better game than the upcoming Half Life 2. What a fool I was.

PC and Console

The first trailer proper is for the upcoming Darktide, from the same makers as Vermintide (and Vermintide 2). It gives us some story context to the game. The forces of Chaos have infiltrated the hive city of Tertium and things are not going well for the Imperial forces. In their desperation it seems that criminals have been press ganged into kill teams, hence our heroes of Darktide. Reminds me very much of Colonel Schaeffer’s Last Chancers. I’m certainly looking forward to Daktide, I had a good time with Vermintide 2 although I did find it a bit samey. Slaughtering Skaven is all very fun but I didn’t find there was variety in the gameplay, even between the different heroes. I remain cautiously optimistic about Darktide, I may pick it up.

Next up is the announcement that everyone gets a free bit of gear in Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters. I don’t own the game but I have heard good things about it.Story by Aaron Dembski-Bowden and voice acting from Andy Serkis certainly lend credence to its pedigree. I am tempted to pick it up, maybe once it goes on sale. Although at this point, I’ve still not played Battlefleet Gothic Armada.

Total War: Warhammer III is getting a new campaign in the form of Immortal Empires. The trailer doesn’t give too much away aside from armies from just about every race in Warhammer Fantasy doing their best to kill each other.

Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood, & Teef looks like a Playstation and Switch exclusive, which makes me sad because this game looks f^&*ing nuts. A side scrolling shoot ‘em up a la Metal Slug in which you play as an Ork Boy? Sign me up.

EDIT: It is coming to PC as it’s on the Steam library. My bad.

The next free update for Vermintide 2 is the Chaos Wastes with the daemon prince Be'lakor being the big bad. As I said before, I enjoyed Vermintide 2 but I just found it so repetitive. I might dip my toe back in for this update but we shall see.

We got some behind the scenes footage of Space Marine 2, nothing new in terms of gameplay footage though. It looks like they’re doing a lot of motion capture with the voice actors, which is cool.Super excited for this game and I can’t wait to see how it plays.

Next up is Warpforge, yet another card game. Not much to say about this to be honest, I feel like these games are dime a dozen.

More exciting is Bloodbowl 3. I never played the original Bloodbowl, either the tabletop game or the video games but this does look fun. Actually, I might own one of the Bloodbowl games, probably having gotten it in some Humble Bundle or Steam sale.

Tempest Fall is an upcoming VR game set in the world of Age of Sigmar, presumably with you playing as a Stormcast Eternal. I don’t own a VR headset yet, but it is on my wishlist. And VR games are coming along leaps and bounds, so this has some potential to be pretty good.

I never got into Battlesector, it being a yet another turn based Warhammer game and I already own Gladius. Not that it looks bad of course, it looks quite fun, and I might pick it up if ever dips low enough in a sale. Especially as the next update will bring the Sisters of Battle and daemonic incursion survival modes. And of course, hints that Orks will be coming soon as well.

Warhammer 40,000 Inquistor is getting remastered for the next generation of consoles. Not one I have played but it does look pretty fun, similar to things like Hades. Fast paced action and slaughtering the denizens of Chaos.

Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun I believe is a remake of a very old Doom-style game. I mean I’ll be honest, it looks like someone said “What if Doom but Space Marines?”. And I’m here for it, another one on the wishlist please.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a CRPG, which is a classic role-playing game supposedly in the style of things like Baldur’s Gate. Although to be honest, I got more XCOM vibes from this than anything else. I’ll keep an eye on this, it has certainly piqued my interest.

Mobile games

Kicking off the mobile games is Warhammer 40,000 Tacticus, which looks like a team based arena game. So you’ll control a squad of Space Marines, say, against your opponent's team of Necrons.

Warhammer Chaos and Conquest… has a nice trailer? Hard to tell what the actual game is about beyond apparently placing towers on a map.

The Horus Heresy Legions game is like Warpforged. But on mobile. And with titans.

Warhammer Quest Silver Tower is getting a second season. Didn’t play the first one but I feel like I’ve seen the game before.

Warhammer 40,000 Lost Crusade I have played, but stopped after getting decked a few too many times by enemy players. New update gives you the option to play as Blood Angels or Dark Angels, as opposed to the default Ultramarines. Call me when they add Space Wolves.

Warhammer Combat Cards is, shock, another card game. This time about Knights. I told you they were dime a dozen.

Age of Sigmar Soul Arena is, another shock, an arena game. At least the farting Nurgling was funny.
