Warhammer Twitch Previews - Warhammer Fest 2021 Day 6

Final day of Warhammer Fest and it’s a complete mystery as to what they will be announcing. What do we think? A new boxed game? More Primaris Space Marines? Something for Age of Sigmar? Warhammer Old World? A new Primarch? I could speculate endlessly, I might actually guess it given enough time.

Off to a good start, with Adam Troke having some audio issues. Quickly resolved however.

Seems that one of the original designers of Warhammer, Richard Halliwell, has sadly passed away. He was clearly a driving force in the early days of Games Workshop and it’s thanks to him and others that we have this massive hobby that it has become today. Rest in Peace Mr Halliwell.

Turns out it’s going to be the next edition of Age of Sigmar! I guess they were due for an update soon as Warhammer 40,000 got Ninth Edition last year. Force up for the new models is Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear of the Stormcast Eternals. I won’t lie, this is a gorgeous model, I’d get this for a painting project. Although Games Workshop continues it’s annoying habit of characters standing on top of some ruins to make them look bigger than they are. Twitch chat was also quick to point out the typo in the slide revealed, apparently she is a SOTRMCAST Eternal, which is hilarious Hot on the heels of Yndrasta are, unsurprisingly, some spear wielding Stormcast Eternals called Vindictors. Apparently, they have some fancy armour as Be’lakor has found a way to inhibit the Stormcasts from being reborn in heaven. Said fancy armour explodes upon the death of the wearer, which I’m sure will cause no shortage of shenanigans on the tabletop. The parade of Stormcast models continues with the Annihilator with Meteoric Hammer, which is basically a super heavy variant of the Stormcasts. Dude looks like he’s built like a brick poop house, so I expect him to be tough as nails and hit like a meteoric hammer.

Shockingly, these Stormcasts will form one half of a new starter box. It's a bit of a shame they aren’t going to show off the other half. They did tease it though, some soldiers in a field getting picked off and surrounded by glowing red eyes. Sounds like Skaven if you ask me, now that is something I would be excited for, as I am planning to collect a horde of rats. Even if it isn’t Skaven then it will be a Chaos faction of some kind, given the aforementioned Chaos cloud brought into existence by Be’lakor.

And that's the end of the Warhammer Fest! I know a lot of people were disappointed that nothing was mentioned about Cursed City and that nothing was revealed for Horus Heresy; but I was really pleased with what was shown off, even if a lot of it wasn't for armies that I don’t collect (yet). Hard to say what my favourite reveal was, probably the Thunderhawk gunship for Aeronautica Imperialis. Or perhaps some of the Sisters of Battle stuff, if we hadn’t already seen them before. It was also quite nice that we didn’t get any Primaris Space Marines for once, although one could argue that Stormcast Eternals are the Primaris of Age of Sigmar. Overall, some real nice shown off this week and if nothing else it’s prompted me to get back into painting having stalled a bit painting up some Hellblasters.
