Edge of the Void - Prologue

Welcome to the Edge of the Void, a Five Parsecs from Home solo narrative campaign set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe! So let’s meet our cast and see what has brought them to the Astrid Reach subsector.

Realspace Translation

There was a loud bang and the screeching of tortured metal as The Glorious Endeavour tore its way out of the Warp back into realspace. On the bridge warning klaxons sounded and sparks erupted from more than one console. The Endeavour had been making for Gate, the trade hub of the Astrid Reach subsector, but an instability in the Warp Drive had forced them to make an emergency translation out of that maddening realm.

The Glorious Endeavour

Lord-Captain Tareefa el-Khatib growled in annoyance, they were a mere five parsecs short of their destination. Whilst the system she and her crew had found themselves in was far from uninhabited, Arccan was a backwater system in an already backwater subsector.

She undid the clasps on her crash restraints and stood from her command throne as the bridge crew began to take control of the chaos around them. The shutters that protected them from seeing the madness of the Warp were raised and warning klaxons suppressed. Their emergency exit from the Empyrean had put the Endeavour relatively close to an inhabited world called Drusaal and for lack of any other options, the Rogue Trader directed the helmsman to make best speed towards it.

They hadn’t been underway long when Enginseer Prime Nesix Herriom-24 entered the bridge and approached the command dias. Bowing as low as his mechanised form would allow, they tactfully explained to the Tareefa that the Warp Drive was indeed inoperable. Work on repairs had already begun but they would take time, effectively trapping The Glorious Endeavour in the Arccan system for the foreseeable future. This was hardly a cause for concern however, they had a hold full of cargo and a willing crew. And while they could still fly there was still profit to be made.

Several hours later the Endeavour had reached its destination and was currently parked in high orbit around Drusaal. The Captain meanwhile had made her way to one of the hangar bays where the gun-cutter Stormspite was being made ready for departure. The Endeavour might be unable to leave the system but that didn’t mean Tareefa had to remain on board, even in this backward system there was adventure and profit to be had.

Meet the Crew

Lord-Captain Tareefa el-Khatib

Tareefa el-Khatib was not born a Rogue Trader, through sacrifice and force of will she has earned a Warrant of Trade. With her ship, The Glorious Endeavour, she explores the infinite frontiers beyond the borders of the Imperium. There is fame and fortune to be found in those dark spaces, and Tareefa drives her crew hard in the pursuit of both.

Tech-Adept Gluvico Raullot

Before joining the crew of The Glorious Endeavour Gluvico was stuck on some remote Mechanicus research outpost. It was so remote that he had to learn to scavenge and salvage what he needed to survive. As such he has become a valued member of the Shipmistress’ inner circle, his quick thinking and ingenuity having gotten them out of more than one dire situation.

Armsman Finn Solis

Finn Solis was born on the Endeavour amongst the work gangs and cramped families. With so many bodies living in such close proximity, disagreements were common. But violence and disruption are not welcome on board The Glorious Endeavour, so Finn quickly learned the value in talking his way out of situations.

Armsman Bron Duke

Originally from one of innumerable frontier worlds in the Imperium, Bron was forcibly press-ganged into joining the Endeavour’s crew. Whilst it was traumatic being stolen from his family and life on board ship is hard, it is a step above the brutal poverty of his home life.

Shai Nue Yieng

Twenty years ago the first-scion of House Virtuosa was ruthlessly assassinated, the assailants fleeing to the void. In response, House Virtuosa unleashed the Blind Divine Death Cult across the galaxy to hunt those responsible. Believing her quarry to have hidden themselves beyond the Imperium’s borders, Shai has joined the Endeavour to seek them out.

Guillermo Nightdall

In another life Guillermo was a soldier in the Astra Militarum. Alas he was not a model soldier and quickly grew weary of the pointless wars. Instead he turned to faith, giving up their worldly possessions, of which they didn’t have many, to walk the path of the Crusader. As such, along with the preachers and missionaries, he was part of the delegation the Adeptus Ministorum assigned to the Endeavour
